Piha Beach :Exhilaration unlimited...Situated 40 km from the city of Auckland, is the black iron-sand beach Piha, one of New Zealand's famous surf beaches. Piha, is a part of the Waitakere ranges regional park, and is an excellent place for vacation especially for beach lovers, surfers & hikers. It is on the west coast of North Island, uniting into the Tasman Sea.

Piha is renowned for its superb scenic beauty and its surf. It is the favorite place for boogie boarders and experienced surfers. The beach is supported by Waitakere ranges, a sub tropical forest, which can be reached through many bush tracks. The most iconic landmark of Piha is - Lion rock, it separates South Piha from North Piha beach. It actually is the eroded neck of a volcano, erupted 16 million years ago. It offers people, who climb it, the spectacular view in all directions. Tourists get amazed by reading its history carved on a big rock situated at the top. Extended towards south of Piha Bay is Taitomo Islands. Taitomo Island was also called as camel rock from its early settlers, because of its distinctive appearance from Piha beach. Northwards to the lion rock stretches the Northern Piha beach, at the end of which is Kohunui Bay. You will find pipits, oyster catchers and little blue penguins there. There are lagoons formed by different streams, creating great swimming place to children. At Kohunui bay, you can enjoy the spectacular view of white beaches from Laird Thomson track. Places like Lasman Lookout & Kitekite Falls bring you the beauty of these tropical forest.

The rip currents in Piha are very unpredictable, so it is always advisable to swim in areas patrolled by surf clubs only. Despite the efforts of surf life-savers, these deadly currents have claimed many lives. Piha beach is also known for the popular NZ reality television show 'Piha Rescue' featuring the lives of Surf life–savers on the beach.

A 60 min picturesque drive from central Auckland to Piha is through the beautiful Waitakere Ranges. The visitor centers nearby provide maps, advice and education on attraction points in Waitakere ranges regional park. There are many options for accommodation available at Piha ranging from camping, bunk accommodation, 'Bed & breakfast' style to family cottages.
